Five armed militants, including a Taliban leader were killed Friday in a military operation in Musa Qala District
Afghan security forces backed by the Coalition troops launched the operation Friday on a haven of the Taliban militants in a village of the volatile Musa Qala District in southern Helmand province, Afghan Interior Ministry said.
Two policemen were also wounded in the fire-exchanges, Ministry of Interior statement confirms.
The forces attacked a compound where militants were gathered, MoI statement noted.
According to the Ministry of Interior, 50 anti-vehicle mines, 18 anti-personnel mines and more than 100 kilograms of explosives were also seized during the raids.
The Taliban militants have been using such ammunition to provide Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and roadside bombs.
Helmand is the stronghold of the Taliban in Afghanistan where they mastermind majority of the attacks against the Afghan government and international forces.
The Taliban that have vowed to intensify attacks against the NATO and Coalition forces have yet to comment on Friday’s gun-battle.
