At the initial stage of a counter-Taliban operation, 40 militants have been killed in the volatile Afghan province, officials said

The operation has begun two days ago in Nad Ali and Bagharan Districts of the province – where Taliban militants have a large influence.

Gen. Muhaiddin Ghori, Commander 3rd Brigade of Atal 205 Corp in Helmand Province said the ANA-led operation is on progress and more Taliban casualties are expected in the next days.

“The troops are battling the Taliban in Bagharan and Babaji areas of Helmand,” said Gen. Ghori.

The Afghan top military general denied any casualties to the troops side, adding some ammunitions and a vehicle of the militants are seized in the assault.

Our correspondent in Afghan south says Nad Ali is a red-marked zone of Helmand province that some top Taliban leaders have found there a safe hideout.

Meanwhile, security officials in Helmand province said they have detained six militants along with explosives in the province.

The militant groups were involved in recent bombings in the province which two teenage sons of the provincial intelligence head were killed.
