Five cops were killed, two wounded in a roadside bomb in Zeray District of Kandahar on Sunday afternoon, MoI said
Afghan Ministry of Interior added two civilians were also killed in the Improvised Explosive Device IED.
The patrol vehicle of counter-narcotics police hit the roadside mine while the forces were controlling the eradication of poppy fields, according to the Press Release.
The Taliban militants encourages poppy cultivation in southern Afghanistan. According to a UN estimation, hundreds of millions of dollars profit of the Afghan drug trade is being injected to the Taliban – a fund to the insurgency.
Ministry of Interior confirms the strength ties between the Taliban and the drug smugglers.
Afghan government is strongly committed to shrink down the opium production in the country as it has faced world criticisms that drug efforts have been wasteful and ineffective.
Last year, the US officials accepted a 20 percent decrease in poppy cultivation in Afghanistan.
