Afghan police has killed three key Taliban commanders in a counter-insurgency operation in southern Helmand province
The Afghan Ministry of Interior said they launched an organized operation targeting a Taliban centre in the province – killing two armed Taliban militants and wounding another half a dozen.
Ministry of Interior states in a press release that Mullah Zalgai, a well-known Taliban commander who masterminded the assassination of MP Dad Mohammad Khan has been also gunned-down in the operation.
MP Mr. Khan was killed along with his four bodyguards in a roadside bomb attempt in Helmand province two weeks ago.
The operation is likely launched after the ambush attack on a police checkpoint in Nahr-e Seraj district, where nine cops were killed in the assault.
MoI says Mullah Ghafar and Mullah Abdullah, other two Taliban leaders, are also among the dead.
Afghan Ministry hopes this operation would strengthen the security in specific district of the volatile southern province.
