Police kill 21 Taliban fighters in clashes

Skirmishes erupt in south, leaving police officer dead, police say

SEPARATE clashes in the southern province of Helmand have killed 21 Taliban militants and one police officer, the province’s police chief said.

Rebels launched attacks in the province’s Nawa district on Friday before Afghan army and police forces counter-attacked, killing 13 Taliban fighters and injuring five others, Helmand’s police chief Mohammad Hussain Andiwal said.

In Greshk district, police killed eight Taliban militants and lost one of their own men during fierce fighting on Saturday, Andiwal said.
